- Diplomacy. Yanli was educated in etiquette, hosting, and rites as befitting the eldest daughter of the YunmengJiang sect leader betrothed to the heir to the LanlingJin sect, and after marrying has continued to learn at the side of the Madam of the Jin clan in preparation for her eventual assumption of that role.
- Cooking. Given her total lack of interest in cultivation or making a name for herself in favour of supporting her loved ones, she developed into a very good chef. She has knowledge of nutrition, flavours and has a number of recipes known by heart.
Mild, quiet, inoffensive. Gentle, and greatly disliking conflict or violence. Despite her high social rank, she never achieved anything notable, and has no ambition. She's above average in talents and looks, but amongst a social circle of outstanding, beautiful people, that means she's used to being overlooked and found wanting by those who don't actually know her. Her resting expression is bland, her posture reserved and proper.
Those who do know her, however, generally either adore her or fear her. Adoration, for her gentleness, her empathy and her warmth. Her bright smiles and unwavering dedication. In and of herself, she's fairly harmless. Yanli dislikes conflict and causing harm, and that includes fighting for a position for herself over others. Her extensive diplomatic training and experience managing both her parents and her siblings mean that she is used to balancing between stronger personalities or soothing hurt pride. She is never impolite. This isn't to say that she allows people to walk all over her; she is content with her place in the world, and takes happiness from her connections.
Yanli is excrutiatingly aware of the rules and social expectations placed on both herself and those around her. She has been very well-raised. However, she will also choose - with very little hesitation - to go against convention when following it would mean keeping quiet when a loved one was insulted or hurt, with every knowledge of what it is she is going against. Put a different way, she will come to someone else's defense, wielding her rank and her relationships like weapons, when she will not do the same on her own behalf. Her refinement can work against her. She won't lie or sugarcoat things to soothe someone's ego pointlessly, which can provoke the prideful or insecure; she won't make excuses when they're obviously superfluous, even if that makes her look guilty.
